The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (ODAFF) seeks a part-time Helicopter Pilot in the Wildlife Services Division. This state government position, located in Oklahoma County, OK, supports wildlife damage control efforts. Pilots work with team members to safely position crew for firearm use in wildlife elimination.
Daily duties include transporting Wildlife Damage Control Specialists to various locations using single-engine aircraft. Pilots conduct low-altitude flights for road inventory, surveys, observations, and aerial hunting activities. They utilize OnX Maps and Spidertracks during operations.
Pilots perform pre-flight planning, including aircraft inspections, weather checks along routes, and passenger notifications for schedule changes. They maintain current logbooks essential for aircraft operation. All work adheres to Federal Aviation Administration requirements.
This role offers responsible aviation work in wildlife management, with preference for knowledge of wildlife tracking and behavior in agricultural damage areas. Low-level flight experience substitutes for specialized requirements where applicable. Incumbents operate helicopters at low altitudes over challenging terrain.
Requirements
- Possession of a current Commercial Pilot Certificate
- Valid and current First-Class or Second-Class FAA medical certification
- 1500 hours total flight time
- 1200 hours PIC (Pilot in Charge) time
- 100 hours flight time in the appropriate class size aircraft (206B)
- 100 hours flight time in a helicopter equipped with a turbine engine
- 100 hours PIC flight in the preceding 12 months
- 250 hours flight experience as PIC for wildlife damage management, or equivalent low-level flight experience
Responsibilities
- Transport Wildlife Damage Control Specialists to and from various locations in single engine aircraft
- Pilot aircraft in all phases of low altitude road inventory activities, survey and observation functions
- Pilot helicopter in low altitude flights to conduct aerial hunting activities
- Use OnX Maps and Spidertracks while flying
- Perform pre-flight planning such as pre-flight inspection of aircraft or helicopter and checking weather conditions along air routes
- Notify or provide for notification of passengers regarding changes in scheduled flights
- Maintain current logbooks necessary to the operation of the aircraft
- Safely place crew in position to use firearms in the elimination of wildlife
